In the early summer 2015 we're receiving the visit of a group of pre-university students from a remote region of Scotland. Since almost one year ago we, at geoGata, in collaboration with our loyal partners in Almería, are designing the contents and experiences that will build up the first international volunteering field camp in nature conservation organised by us. We hold the role of coordination while our friends from the SERBAL Society for the Study and Recovery of the Almería Biodiversity and the Andalusian Centre dealing with Global Change (CAESCG) have helped us so much in giving birth the project. Also, from the Research Group in Water Resources and Environmental Geology of the University of Almería, Prof. J. María Calaforra will show us the particularities and hazards that affect the Sorbas Gypsum Karst in central Almería, as well as it's associated ecosystems.
Bird and reptile census, geoconservation, photo-tramp practise and techniques, beach recovering and other tasks will have to be done by the pupils, that have shown their courage by spending the two preceding weeks in the Almería province helping animal shelters and trekking the beautiful but hot Cabo de Gata Nature Park, Biosphere Reserve and Geopark.
In Geogata we're committed with collaboration and so that we've asked several companies and associations to help us and take part in the camp. Thus, El Cabo a Fondo boat tours company and Sorbas Caves centre, as well as the society of local fishermen, are also participating and helping to build up the schedule and the learning process. All this work has been carried out with the will of creating a superb experience and a loyal approach to the methodology of studying and conserve the natural heritage of Almería. It's a true challenge for us to make this coordination works but we're sure to fulfil our visitors' expectations and to have created a relation between the forgotten Almería and the remote Scotland that will, in the future, led to other projects together.
